It’s a year since our wedding meantime was started. And Facebook keeps reminding me with the “On this day” app – that I thought in my nostalgia I would post a wedding series about what we did and why. And I need some happy in my life after this.
As a person with an impulsive nature – “Screw it, let’s do it” is one of my favourite lines. It’s a line I use when my overthinking brain has grown tired, so that it can short circuit. When logic makes sense to not – but…the reasons to not are not enough.
I didn’t imagine I would have this line for my wedding though. I mean aren’t you supposed to go planning crazy for your wedding? That’s part of the fun… lol the stress, the impossible requests, dates, appointments, ideas, options…getting to be “Bridezilla” I get excited just thinking about. Cue soppy music!
My wedding was nothing like that. My friends and I had a little joke – theme song to the wedding – dum da dum da da da dum… “Under Pressure!”.
They say a girl dreams about her wedding day all her life, and well… We do, not really about specifics though – and by this I mean the guy waiting at alter has his face changed throughout various phases is our lives and in some phases he is just a blur lol.
I mean you have an idea of certain things you like – you know exactly what you don’t like and you hum bum your way through the rest.
Ian and I got engaged in 2013, and you know when you plan to get married when things are calmer and better? Yeah, that was us and somewhere between September and October of 2014 – there was a screeching halt.
A stop – wait, what are we doing – moment.
We sat down and asked one another honestly what we wanted from this day… what was the goal? What was important about this day for him? What was important about this day for me?
This was the conversation that defined the next few weeks and we announced around the 15th of October that we would be getting married 21 December 2014.
It was a crazy exciting time for us.
Goals?
- To be Mr and Mrs at the end of the day
- To have something unique and special
Tick! Tick! Perfect!
It was an emotional ride – as it should be. Not a thing I regret. We made vows to our children, and one another. Our pups featured. (just thinking about this day makes my eyes fill up with tears) We had our family and friends pull together in a big way to make it extra-ordinary and it was!
When I think about our wedding today I am amazed that it all came together, I’m thankful for the people who held me together, I am in complete awe.
Things that made our day arrrrrrrrrrrrrrreesome:
- The weather played along – what? Yes, in PE, the weather played along. I got married in a park outside the Pearson Conservatory with no back up plan and the weather played along.
- My maid of honor is humble and creative – lol, beneficial much? We stood in the park on the afternoon of the wedding – late, her on her knees, sewing up my dress (that I tore while putting it on a half hour before). It might not seem like much but walking around on your wedding day with your panties showing wasn’t my idea of cool.
- FOOD! This was a big one – we had a Morrocan Shwarma theme for the food – WOWzeee this was an experience to say the least (will definitely share on more on this later)
- We wore takkies to our day! 🙂 this made my heart happy – my feet too!
- We did personalize vows – eeeeeecccckkk, we both cried the whole way through. For our ones to each other and to our girls.
- We made a lot of our table decor…
- Our photographer Erna was awesome 🙂 she kept us calm, laughing and loving… She was professional and after the experience I feel like I have gained a friend. I’ve featured some of the pictures here… which we absolutely love! Erna just got us, we asked for different and at times outside of her own comfort she gave us that! She went above and beyond what we expected her too. She was great with the kids, and the dogs. Check her out at Erna Loock Photography!
Now that I am all excited about this… I can start brainstorming some idea’s for future posts in the series.
My perfect day <3
What was your wedding like? What made it special for you? I would love to hear from you!
In the meantime – just do it!
