Last week we received a dehumidifier from GMC Aircon to review and I must be honest, what I knew about a dehumidifier was really bleak. I had assumed that this was going to assist with some troubles we had like sinus, allergies and asthma. Although these are not mainly used for this, the dehumidifier actually solved a much bigger problem that we have – mold.
In general the area we live is very wet, what I mean by this is when it rains our backyard tends to flood. Coupled with the fact that our home is north facing and we have no big windows in the front our home is always cool. Although this initially was a huge bonus, we quickly discovered that certain rooms in our house are very susceptible to mold.
We have tried everything to alleviate this, as mold is a huge health hazard. Although many solutions work in the short term, I am excited to let you know that a dehumidifier assists this problem in the long term.
GMC Dehumidifier Review
The GMCDHF26L Dehumidifier features a continuous and auto-dehumidifying action. As well as a built-in ionizer that removes harmful bacteria from the air as it filters it. It is really easy to use and is easily set up. The compact design of the system enables use in any small rooms, and even cupboards depending on where your problem lies. It also means simple storage.
We decided that we would use it in our bedroom to start off because we have a mold problem between the sliding door and window. In future I would also like to use this in our en-suite bathroom, as the mold picks up in there quite quickly.
How does it actually work?
The GMC dehumidifier draws water out of the air, and at the same time removes bacteria and filters the air. There is a drainage pipe, that you can use. We preferred to use the built in tank, because with a toddler around its bound to cause some water messes. The tricky bit for me was figuring out what the level of humidity was in our home in order to set it to get to optimal levels. To assist with this digital humidistats keep the humidity even and automate the units operation to a plug and play solution.

What are the benefits?
Allergens such as mold, mildew and dust mites thrive in humid environments. Whether you live in a small space, or one that gets limited ventilation, like in our case, moisture can build even in dry climates. The GMC dehumidifier reduces the moisture in the air, making your home less accommodating to allergens. It helps reduce odours associated with damp and mildew simultaneously. The dehumidifier reduces the possibility of you developing mold on clothes, curtains and other furniture. And a less humid environment means, your washing will dry faster. (You can actually use it to dry your clothes too.) Bread and cereal would last longer in your kitchen and no more rusting furniture. What’s more is that it reduces the amount of dust in your home! Moms can I get an Amen?!
What do I think?
The automatic feature is fantastic, as I don’t have to worry about what the levels should be. As too little humidity can also be bad for you as well. The four removable roller castors make it super easy to move the device around to areas that need it. I love that with our sinuses, respiratory problems that this is a safe “non-medicated” solution by making our home safer in general.
