Last weekend I had the awesome privilege of attending the Baby Preemie and Me Neonatal Conference at the Marine Marriott Hotel, hosted by Little Big Souls and partnered with NATUS. I learnt a lot and even that is an understatement. This being a first for South Africa, I am very proud that it happened right here in Port Elizabeth!
15 months, roughly 450 days, and a gazillion feeds later… now that I am completely normalised to breastfeeding myself. (Let’s face it, whipping out your boob all over does take some getting used to – whether with a cover or not.) Now that the pumping is over and I can relax, breathe take a lunch break. He just decided to start self-weaning. How dare he?

It’s an icy cold winters night. It is just after 2am. All that can be heard in our home, aside from subtle hum of sleep – is the “brrrrrr, brrrrrr, brrrrrr” of my breastpump. I am pumping to make up enough milk for Daniel for school the next day. We are still exclusively breastfeeding. It is so much pressure. I ended up sitting up for an hour – sobbing while I pumped. I don’t want to do this anymore I thought, feeling so sorry for myself. (more…)
Daniel and I got the silver boob award last month hooray! For those of who don’t know what that means, basically I exclusively breastfed him for 6 months. Why an award you might be wondering? Well! Let me just tell you that choosing to breastfeed your baby is NOT for the faint of heart! (more…)
