Have you ever wanted to be a mermaid? I don’t mean from watching Ariel when you were little. I mean really thought of what life could be like with a tail, being able to breathe under water. Being part of something magical? When you are in primary school, these kinds of ideas are so much more real than we could ever imagine. “Emily Windsnap and the Falls of the Forgotten Island” came to live with us a few weeks ago. Up until that point, I knew she loved mermaids, but I never realised how much!

Emily Windsnap

Emilie has been nose into this book for what’s felt like forever, and as much as I love that she is enjoying it so much. I miss my kid. We read parts together and I must say I enjoyed it too. Giggles and laughter and imagining, the absolute best parts of being an avid reader. Going into a world that is completely make-believe and only for you. A safe space of re-imagining who you are and could be. With this in mind she was extremely excited to share every little detail of this book with me. I will try to make it as exciting as she did and I promised her that for her next read – she could do some of the writing too! Be sure to look out for that – coming soon.

Emily Windsnap

Emily Windsnap has legs on land, but when in water she transforms into a magical mermaid. Her best friend Shona and boyfriend Aaron are mer-people too. When they go on a holiday to a tropical island together with her mom. Emily promises Shona there will be no adventure, no trouble, just loads of fun and relaxing. Against her better judgement though, Emily finds herself drawn to the Forgotten Island Waterfall. Somehow she gets herself on the other side of the waterfall where no one else can get too. No one else except her mer-friends of course.

The people on this island believe in a prophecy in which Emily’s mysterious arrival plays a huge role. It also entails a devastating earthquake and a magical mystery giant. Emily sets on a journey to fulfill the prophecy to save the people of the forgotten island.. with mystery, adventure and moments of absolute sadness this book has swallowed my daughter. Her wishlist currently contains 6 things for her birthday and each one of those is another book in this series.

Emily Windsnap is a best selling series and I can see why. This book is available at Raru, Takealot and Exclusive books online for R130-R180 for paperback. There is also a box set available of the 6 books prior to this one on special at Takealot right now! Accckkkk! Brownie points for this mama!

Disclaimer: I received this book from Pan Macmillan but all the opinions and views are mine and my daughters lol!

In the Meantime – Do you have a little girl in your life who would enjoy this new edition to the Emily Windsnap series? Have you read any of the other editions? Let me know in the comments.
